NASA releases its independent UAP study and names a research director
NASA, United States
Witness account
NASA released the report of its independent UAP study team and announced a director of UAP research. The report focused on how NASA's expertise and available data could improve future investigation, rather than re-adjudicating every famous UFO case. It emphasized obtaining better-calibrated observations, metadata and systematic analysis, and addressed obstacles posed by stigma and fragmented reporting.
Public record
The team's published report and NASA announcement are primary records of its remit and recommendations. They describe limited high-quality data as a major constraint. NASA named Mark McInerney to coordinate its research role, which should not be confused with control over every military or intelligence investigation.
