Chilean Navy infrared object and apparent emissions
Chilean coastal airspace
Witness account
A Chilean Navy helicopter crew recorded an infrared object during a November 11 flight. The footage included two apparent trails or emissions and later became widely publicized after Chile's official aviation-anomaly investigators released it in January 2017. Some accounts describe it as an officially inexplicable craft ejecting material, but that wording obscures the difference between the crew's impression and later analysis of the camera geometry.
Public record
IPACO specialists produced a technical assessment in November 2015, later amended in January 2017, favouring an airliner. Their report explicitly records uncertainties about camera specifications and altitude. Subsequent open analysis compared airline tracks and infrared appearance and identified an airliner-and-contrail interpretation, including discussion of Iberia flight IB6830.
