Witness account

Residents around Stephenville reported unusual lights and, in some accounts, a very large object on January 8. The military initially denied aircraft activity relevant to the reports, then acknowledged that ten F-16s had been training in the area. That correction became part of the case's historical importance because the changing official explanation intensified local mistrust and national coverage.

Public record

Witness interviews, FAA radar records obtained through information requests and military flight documentation form the public evidence. MUFON investigators Glen Schulze and Robert Powell argued that portions of the radar data supported an unusual target; competing interpretations questioned correlation of those returns with the witnesses' reported object.
