Amy Rylance / Gundiah alleged abduction
Gundiah and Mackay, Queensland

Witness account
Petra Heller said she saw Amy Rylance carried horizontally through a window in a beam of light at Gundiah late on October 4. Keith Rylance reported the alleged disappearance to police. Amy was subsequently found in Mackay, roughly 790 kilometres away by road, and described an unfamiliar room and an encounter with a suited figure. The geographical separation became the story's central claim, but it was never an independently demonstrated instantaneous journey.
Public record
Investigators Bill Chalker and Diane Harrison interviewed the participants in October 2001. Chalker described ambiguous window and vegetation damage, unavailable physical samples and uncooperative participants. His 2024 account reproduces an earlier critical review and discusses 2002 local reporting of police concerns about hotel and telephone records.
