The Air Force Roswell study: 1994 findings and 1995 volume
Washington, D.C.; Roswell-related archives
Witness account
The U.S. Air Force reviewed Roswell records in response to renewed congressional interest. Its 1994 study identified a classified balloon effort, Project Mogul, as the most likely source of the debris recovered in 1947. Secretary of the Air Force Sheila Widnall announced the investigation’s completion on 8 September 1994. A much larger documentary volume, The Roswell Report: Fact versus Fiction in the New Mexico Desert, followed in 1995.
Public record
The official report, appendices and archival guidance establish what the Air Force investigated and concluded. The 1994 report date, September public announcement and 1995 volume are related but not interchangeable milestones. The conclusion concerned the likely source of debris and the search for evidence of an extraterrestrial recovery.
