Witness account

Numerous western Michigan residents reported unusual lights on 8 March 1994. Police communications and observations by National Weather Service radar operator Jack Bushong became central to the case. The episode later gained renewed attention through interviews and television coverage, sometimes described as a large, radar-confirmed UFO event.

Public record

Contemporary Detroit News reporting on 20 March recorded a disagreement within the weather service: area manager Dean Gulezian said the radar returns had not been related to the visual sightings. Later accounts emphasize Bushong’s interpretation and additional witnesses. Both the original disagreement and the retrospective nature of much of the expanded narrative are relevant.
