Witness account

Reports of unusual lights, often described as triangular craft, accumulated after the night of 29 November 1989. On 30–31 March 1990, two Belgian F-16s were scrambled following further reports and radar indications. The pilots did not visually identify an anomalous craft. The frequently reproduced Petit-Rechain triangle photograph belongs to a separate alleged episode in April 1990.

Public record

Belgian military reporting is discussed in released British Ministry of Defence files, confirming a real response and contemporary uncertainty. Radar contacts, ground observations and later civilian testimony are not automatically observations of the same object. In July 2011 the Petit-Rechain photographer acknowledged constructing a model, fundamentally changing the status of that image.
