Novelist Whitley Strieber dated a central encounter with what he called visitors to 26 December 1985 at a cabin in upstate New York. His 1987 book Communion combined accounts of experiences, efforts to interpret them and later investigative sessions. The alleged encounter date and the publication date are distinct: Communion is not a 1985 book.
Public record
Original-edition bibliographic records establish publication in 1987, and an archive of Strieber material identifies a December 1986 MUFON essay preceding the book. The autobiographical narrative and its publication are well documented. They do not independently establish the identity of the perceived beings or the external events reconstructed during subsequent inquiry.
