Project Hessdalen begins systematic observation
Hessdalen valley, Trøndelag
Witness account
Reports of recurring lights in Norway’s Hessdalen valley drew investigators during the early 1980s. Project Hessdalen was established on 3 June 1983, followed by an instrumented field campaign from 21 January to 26 February 1984. The team used photography and other monitoring equipment to record observations and seek correlations, making the project distinct from a single dramatic eyewitness report.
Public record
The project’s own history, observation logs and reports establish the dates and research activity. Its observations included reports investigators considered relevant to the recurring phenomenon, alongside sightings that could receive ordinary explanations. A count of every logged report is not a count of verified anomalous objects.
