The Nancy or L’Amarante case

Witness account

A witness in the Nancy area reported watching an unusual object hover above his garden in daylight before departing. The account became known as L’Amarante because changes in amaranth plants were investigated as possible effects of the event. The reported observation was on 21 October 1982; GEPAN received a gendarmerie telex on 23 October and produced Technical Note 17.

Public record

The report supplies an unusually detailed single-witness narrative and descriptions of a garden inspection. The observation, plant condition and proposed causal relationship are separate claims. No independent observer or recovered craft linked the plant changes conclusively to the reported object.
