The Roswell Incident revives the crash-retrieval narrative
New York publication; Roswell, New Mexico subject
Witness account
Charles Berlitz and William L. Moore published The Roswell Incident, an important point in the transformation of a short-lived 1947 news story into a continuing allegation of a recovered extraterrestrial craft and government concealment. The revival drew on interviews conducted decades after the original event, including renewed attention to Jesse Marcel. This is a 1980 publication milestone, not the date at which the alleged crash or a new recovery occurred.
Public record
Bibliographic records independently establish the original publisher, Grosset & Dunlap, and the year 1980. The existence of the book and its claims is secure. Its historical reconstruction must be evaluated against the surviving 1947 reporting and records, with each later witness account dated separately.
