UN General Assembly decision 33/426: coordination invited, no UFO agency established
United Nations, New York
Witness account
Grenada promoted international consideration of UFOs and proposed a United Nations role. The General Assembly ultimately adopted decision 33/426, inviting interested member states to coordinate relevant scientific research nationally and communicate results. The subject therefore did enter the official UN record, but the outcome was more limited than the creation of a permanent UN UFO investigation agency.
Public record
The UN Digital Library records the adoption date and meeting, while the UN library’s explanatory note distinguishes the adopted decisions from Grenada’s draft resolutions, which were not pressed to a vote. Britain’s January 1979 parliamentary debate independently describes the compromise and the transmission of relevant material to the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
