Witness account

Iranian military personnel responded to reports of a bright object over Tehran. Two F-4 interception attempts are described in the U.S. reporting, together with visual observations, a claimed radar acquisition and failures of communications or other aircraft systems. The account also describes smaller lights or objects apparently separating from the main light.

Public record

A released defense intelligence document is a real contemporaneous report with broad distribution. It is not a surviving raw radar tape or an instrumented demonstration that an external object disabled equipment. A frequently linked NSA-hosted PDF titled The U.S. Government and the Iran Case is actually a civilian UFO newsletter reproducing and discussing the cable, not a separate NSA scientific assessment.
