31 October 1968 transmittal; January 1969 public release / T104
Condon report transmitted in 1968 and released publicly in January 1969
University of Colorado, Boulder
Witness account
The Colorado study concluded that UFO research had contributed little to scientific knowledge and that a broad continuation was unlikely to be productive. Its case chapters, technical discussions and appendices form a large primary-source collection. The report should therefore be represented both as an influential policy conclusion and as a collection of investigations with differing individual outcomes.
Public record
The original covering letter establishes 31 October 1968 as the formal transmittal date. Condon’s conclusions did not say that every case was solved, or that all research touching UFO reports was forbidden. He allowed that well-defined individual proposals could merit scientific support, and distinguished scientific priorities from military surveillance responsibilities. The public January 1969 release is a different milestone from completion.
