Witness account

Air Force personnel on the ground and aboard a B-52 reported unusual lights around Minot during the early morning. The case includes radar observations and surviving radar-scope imagery, making the documentary record more substantial than an ordinary light-in-the-sky anecdote. It must nevertheless be reconstructed as a sequence of observations rather than one automatically unified event.

Public record

The original Blue Book file preserves statements, diagrams and the official assessment. Later researchers compared these with renewed interviews, including aircrew illustrations made many years afterward. Astronomical objects, known aircraft and radar effects were invoked in official or later explanations. The existence of a radar return does not independently prove that a visually reported light and the return had a common source.
