House Symposium on Unidentified Flying Objects
Washington, D.C.
Witness account
The House Committee on Science and Astronautics held a symposium bringing scientific perspectives on UFOs into the congressional record. The published proceedings include oral presentations, questioning and submitted material. This was a separate event from the April 1966 Armed Services hearing and took place while the Colorado study was still underway.
Public record
The official hearing publication and a searchable reproduction preserve differing approaches to witness reports, physical evidence and the value of further research. Hynek and McDonald argued for more serious inquiry; other scientific contributions cautioned against inferring alien visitation from unexplained reports. A submitted paper and an in-person oral statement are not interchangeable forms of participation.
