Men in Black enter a broader late-1960s media cycle

United States, especially Long Island and Point Pleasant reporting networks

Witness account

John Keel’s journalism helped circulate accounts of sinister visitors, strange telephone calls and intimidation around UFO witnesses. The motif predated him, but late-1960s magazine exposure and later books expanded its audience. These are events in UFO culture and reporting history, not a verified organizational history of an actual secret enforcement group.

Public record

Keel’s surviving papers provide a valuable corrective. In material about the Joseph Henslik story, a later annotation says Henslik and his mother confessed to a hoax allegedly encouraged by James Moseley and Gray Barker. That annotation documents Keel’s later understanding and allegation; it should not be promoted into independent proof of every person’s actions or every Men in Black account.
