Witness account

Ten Minuteman missiles in Echo Flight reportedly entered a nonoperational status during the morning of 16 March 1967. A technical investigation examined the malfunction. The best-known later testimony by Robert Salas concerns Oscar Flight and is commonly assigned a different date, often 24 March. These are distinct claims and must not be blended into one event with a single set of witnesses.

Public record

Unit-history material and engineering records support the Echo outage. The contemporary records discuss possible electrical noise or transient effects and do not establish that a UFO caused the failure. Reports of unusual lights and rumors require their own witness and reporting chronology. Later interview evidence may add information, but does not acquire the date or authority of an original operational log.
