Witness account

Muscarello reported alarming red lights over a field near Kensington. Officer Eugene Bertrand returned with him and described another observation; officer David Hunt also reported lights. The location is commonly reduced to Exeter, although the central field encounter occurred in nearby Kensington. Reports concerned lights and an inferred object, not a photographed craft with measured dimensions.

Public record

A Blue Book file, police accounts and civilian investigator Raymond Fowler’s work provide a substantial contemporary record. John Fuller’s 1966 book made the episode nationally influential. The accounts do not all represent observers simultaneously measuring the same thing under identical conditions; witness position, time, lighting and aircraft activity matter when comparing them.
