Witness account

The Hills reported an unusual light or object while driving home through New Hampshire. Their account later developed into an abduction narrative involving missing time, beings and medical procedures. Betty described disturbing dreams soon after the trip. In 1964 the couple underwent hypnosis with psychiatrist Benjamin Simon, and the story reached a large audience through 1965 newspaper coverage and Fuller’s 1966 The Interrupted Journey.

Public record

University archives preserve early reporting and hypnosis-related records. These establish that different components were recorded at different times; the full later narrative was not all documented in the initial September 1961 report.
