Florence spectators watch unusual objects and “angel hair”
Florence, including Stadio Comunale

Witness account
A football match in Florence was interrupted while players and spectators watched unusual objects overhead. Accounts elsewhere in the city and surrounding region described falling whitish filaments, often called angel hair. The incident belongs to Italy’s contribution to the broader 1954 European wave rather than to an exclusively French sequence.
Public record
Contemporary reporting and descriptions of collected material establish a public event. The crowd’s size should not be converted into an equal number of independently interviewed witnesses, and varied descriptions should not be merged into one exact craft shape.
