Maury Island: falling debris and an early intimidation story

Maury Island / Tacoma, Washington

Witness account

Dahl and Crisman said doughnut-shaped aerial objects had appeared over Puget Sound, dropping material that injured a boy and killed a dog. Their claim placed the event before Arnold’s sighting, but its documented circulation followed the flying-saucer publicity. Arnold investigated with financing from publisher Raymond Palmer. Two Army Air Forces investigators, William Davidson and Frank Brown, later died in a B-25 crash on 1 August while returning from Tacoma.

Public record

Military and FBI inquiries, purported debris, press accounts and Arnold’s later narrative establish an investigation and a fatal aircraft accident. They do not establish extraordinary aerial objects.
