The Scandinavian ghost rockets
Sweden and other Scandinavian countries, with related reports farther afield

Witness account
Reports of luminous or projectile-like objects over Scandinavia prompted military and intelligence attention in 1946. A major initial hypothesis was Soviet experimentation with captured German rocket technology. Some accounts resembled meteors, while others described slower objects or apparent impacts. The historical wave consists of heterogeneous reports and investigations, not an established class of identical machines.
Public record
Contemporary correspondence and reports are reproduced in Joel Carpenter's documentary chronology. The National Archives identifies British Foreign Office and Air Ministry files concerning the inquiry. These sources establish an intelligence interest in possible foreign weapons. An official memorandum collecting witness claims still requires scrutiny of the underlying observations and the certainty expressed by its author.
