Witness account

Agobard criticized a popular belief that aerial sailors from a country called Magonia paid weather magicians for crops damaged by storms. He described a crowd holding three men and one woman accused of falling from those ships, apparently intending to stone them. Agobard argued against the accusation. Modern accounts sometimes turn this episode into an early alien-abduction case.

Public record

On Hail and Thunder is a surviving polemical text, and the relevant discussion is identifiable in its second section. It documents what Agobard said people believed and how he opposed a dangerous accusation. It does not include a first-person account from any captive describing transportation, nor does Agobard claim to have seen a ship in the sky.
